Following the frustration felt by Arsenal fans, it seems the higher-ups in Arsenal’s ranks are also questioning why Wenger has spent so little this transfer window following the substantial amount of funds he has been given to bolster the squad.
Despite having a large amount of funds, Wenger has yet to lure any big names to the Emirates and the toll is starting to show in season ticket sales, in which are thousands of supporters are refusing to buy season passes as reported by the Sun.
The Sun also reports Wenger accepts the need for a proven centre-back but has yet to seal any deals in the transfer market among the various players that seem eligible, including Samba, Cahill and Mertersacker. Although the former, Samba and Cahill, are said to have been enquired about by Wenger.
There is obviously a need to do something, as it is the fans that keep the heart of Arsenal FC beating by representing a large amount of profits the gunners enjoy, but perhaps Arsene is biding his time.
Arsenal Chief Executive Ivan Gazidis stressed that transfer policies within Arsenal must be different to opposition clubs as we simply do not have to buying power to simply out-bid the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea and cannot really afford to get into a price war.
Following this I am hopeful that Arsene picks up the activity in the closing stages of the transfer window in his bid to avoid a price war, where he said recently activity will pick up in ‘late July, early August’. If indeed we land some of those top names I am sure all will be forgiven, provided he pulls through at this late stage in the transfer window and signs some of those players Arsenal fans are longing to see. Wenger, you still have time to rectify many fans feelings of frustration, don’t waste it.
