When we thought the player exodus at Arsenal couldn’t get any worse, it seems the papers have added more misery and demoralisation to Arsenal fans with stories which certainly need to be taken with a pinch of salt.
Reports today from the Telegraph and the Daily Mail say that two more Arsenal stars, Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott, are ready to join the departure wagon away from the Emirates in the wake of heavy links away from Arsenal of key team mates Fabregas, Clichy and Nasri.
The Mail reports Chelsea are ready to bid for pacy winger Theo Walcott who is said to want to follow his close team mates away from the Emirates. If successful the loss of yet another first choice attacking midfielder would leave our squad decimated, with only Wilshere and Song being the only first team midfielders set to be absolute certainties in the squad this coming season, although the validity of this story seems extremely suspect.
As for van Persie, the validity of the claim of his unhappiness at Arsenal put in the Telegraph just seems to be fabricated and pure speculation. On numerous occasions Robin has committed himself to the Gunners as any player in the team should. Relatively recent statements at the end of March support this when van Persie was asked if it would be easier just to move to a more successful club: “Absolutely not. I’m happy here, I have a contract with Arsenal and I fully respect that.”
All this talk about key players exiting will certainly cause unrest among Arsenal fans. Although mainly rumours, I am sure many people are interested to see who boards the plane for Arsenals pre-season tour of the Far East next weekend. With the transfer window only just been officially opened on July 1st, now the fun is set to really begin with Wenger’s intentions in the transfer window finally set to be revealed.
