We all have heard of the prolonged transfer speculation surrounding Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas and his return to his boyhood club Barcelona, a prolonged saga that has gone on for approximately one and a half years now.
I, as well as many Arsenal fans, have seen Barcelona exploit their stardom and put professionalism aside to try and put a dent in Arsenal’s valuation of Fabregas by suggesting he is ‘suffering’ and it is his ‘destiny’ to go back to the Camp Nou.
Considering the transfer dealings going around though, I must say what is being asked for is reasonably fair for a player his ability and talent, and as such the best team in the world, Barcelona FC, has to ask Fabregas himself to help pay the transfer fee according to the Mirror.
Arsenal value Fabregas at £40m, and it is being reported that Barcelona have asked Fabregas to put in a cheeky £4m from his on pocket to seal the deal as they continue to struggle to meet the price tag.
Fabregas has been left out of all pre-season games so far, seeming as though that he will be soon on his way to the Nou Camp with Wenger publicly admitting that the tension he feels between Arsenal and Barcelona has left him unsettled.
With Mata reportedly waiting in the wings after rejecting a move by Tottenham though, Wenger is keen to rush the deal so he can rebuild the team with the funds that come in, hence the given reported deadline of August the 5th.
I have to say, this would be a fitting end to a very prolonged and almost farcical transfer. Fab does deserve to have his dream after serving loyally for 8 years, although to see him have to pay out of his own pocket to get there is a bit of a joke (if you believe the rumour). With all that moolah coming in though, I hope Wenger finally gets himself a great centre-back. We here at allArsenal.com have been saying it all pre-season, along with pretty much every Arsenal fan, and look what has happened in the last two pre-season games.
