After seeing Newcastle’s star player and captain, Kevin Nolan, leave right before his eyes, bad-boy Joey Barton couldn’t resist putting up a scathing attack on the higher-ups at toon, saying bluntly they lack the ambition to be able to retain himself along with Jonas Gutierrez and Jose Enrique.
Now following on from that outburst, he was at it again, where following Enrique’s example, he posted on Twitter: “If only we as players could tell the fans exactly how it is, without them above fining us lots of money. There will be a time and a place.
“If it wouldn’t effect team morale and cause unrest within the dressing room, am certain Jose’s comments would be the tip of the iceberg…..
“And again it would be left to those magnificent fans to pick up the remnants of their once great football club.”
With such a public attack on the Newcastle board, it has been revealed that enough is enough and Newcastle have decided to let simply let him go on a free transfer only because if they terminate his contract they have will to pay the remaining 12 months in a lump-sum.
The move is reported by a number of sources to have alerted North London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham, who both share ‘supposed’ interest in Barton, with his steely presence in midfield.
Although he could add that steel to an Arsenal midfield that has been lacking in the grit department recently, I wouldn’t even attempt to imagine how Barton would deal with the way Arsene Wenger works in the transfer market. I feel he would just cause un-needed conflict and publicity in an Arsenal outfit that already has enough weight on it’s shoulders.
With Song and Wilshere beginning to add a bit bite in midfield, I feel Barton is hardly needed and doesn’t reflect our playing style. Focus on Mata and Jagielka as they are much better options to bolster the squad considering the uncertainty around Fabregas and Nasri.
