It seems transfer dealings involving Arsenal target Juan Mata have hit another snag, following the expiration of his £18m buy-out clause for foreign clubs on Monday.
Dirty scum Tottenham reportedly tried to exploit the clause last week by tabling a £22m bid for the highly-rated Spanish star, only to be rejected due to their inability to offer Champions League football.
It is reported by the Telegraph that Mata would rather come to Arsenal where he could expect a higher wage, as well as having the opportunity for Champions League football.
But with Fabregas’ future yet to be resolved, Arsenal have only made one bid for the midfielder that was quickly rejected, as revealed by his father who said: “Valencia simply rejected their offer. After some hesitation they answered ‘no’ to the Gunners’ offer.
“So my son remains a Valencia player, for now. But I don’t think it’s their last offer.
“There are several offers for Mata and I think that Arsenal will come forward again. The situation is still evolving.”
While the gunners still wait for cash-strapped Barcelona to stop letting their players try get a bargain and cough up the required cash for his services, Arsene Wenger is reluctant to strengthen until he knows whether Fabregas is actually going to leave.
With the foreign buy-out clause now expired it is understood that Valencia can adopt their own buy-out clause of £52m and simply drive would-be buyers away or simply demand more money, although Arsenal remain hopeful they can snag him for a significantly lower price when Fabregas does leave. Although with Inter supposedly ready to table offers a bidding war could ensue.
Mata, as everyone pretty much has guessed, all depends on Fabregas and whether Barcelona just pay-up some cash. The fact that this saga has gone on this long is enough of a joke, but the fact it could also jeopardise a key replacement signing such as Juan Mata is infuriating. Barca, I admit you play the most beautiful football, but your transfer dealings are about as bad as your diving.
