South Korea captain Park, 26, had been due to sign for Lille after already undergoing the first part of a medical, but he now appears destined for the Emirates Stadium after Arsene Wenger finally made his move in the market.
Lille president Michel Seydoux told BBC Sport: “We haven’t had a telephone call – nothing. From what we understand he could be at Arsenal.”
He added: “Like Monaco, Lille are baffled. Everything had been agreed.”
The Press Association reports that Arsenal have offered around £10 million for Park. Apparently representatives of the Gunners are currently in France, with reports suggesting that they are also planning offers of €35 million for Lille starlet Eden Hazard and Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila for £10m. It remains to be seen whether the Park deal will have an affect on Hazard’s negotiations, with Lille naturally unhappy at Arsenal’s poaching of the South Korean striker.
Meanwhile, The Mirror are convinced that Wenger will return with an improved bid for Bolton’s defender Gary Cahill believed to be around £15m plus add ons. Cahill is looking extremely likely now, with the bookies placing his departure to Arsenal at 2/5.
It is set to be a busy next few days for Wenger, with rumours flying around left, right and centre. However the key position we desperately require reinforcements for is the attacking midfielder role, and we still dont seem any closer to signing anyone. We will keep you posted on any new transfer news.
