Benayoun has seen just one minute of action for the Blues this season and was surplus to requirements following the arrival of fellow midfielder Juan Mata from Valencia, whom he gave his number 10 jersey to.
He tweeted on his official Twitter page: ”I sign with arsenal, very happy and excited about it,but now my head is only in the game against grecce [sic] on friday, thanks for the support.”
Benayoun was restricted to 10 appearances for the club last season due to an Achilles injury, which kept him out for six months.
Yossi plays as an attacking midfielder, usually occupying the space just in behind the striker. He is also known for his creative play and was lauded as a possible solution to Chelsea’s lack of creative spark but was unable to break into the first team.
I aim no offence at young Ramsey, because I am long-time admirer of the lad, but the entrance of both Arteta and Benayoun will provide healthy competition and guidance to a young player that is still inexperienced and still improving in the Premier League and should see him grow much more effectively.
It is great to see that the Arsenal squad now has some depth and a now a wealth of experience. The ratio of experience to young new-comers is now much more balanced and in the instance of injury or suspension it is good to see that we will have at least some more depth off the bench!
