In total sixteen members of the Arsenal first team were involved in international duty, with both Van Persie and Chu-Young Park being mentioned recently for grabbing seven goals between them. Following the outstanding performances of the Arsenal duo other notable performances from the international break are shown below.
Aaron Ramsey – Wales – The young up-and-coming midfielder captained Wales in the recent match against England and was named man-of-the-match after becoming the driving force behind Wales improved performance in the second half, showing that he has the ability to play the final ball on attack. The young Welshman was also on the score-sheet against Montenegro after applying a tidy finish to a Gareth Bale pass inside the box. Hopefully both the guidance of Arteta and his good performances for Wales will continue his development.
Chu-Young Park – South Korea – The new recruit was on the score-sheet again following his brilliant hat-trick against Lebanon. A cheeky dummy by his team-mate set-up Park just inside the front of the 18-yard box where he made no mistake with the finish, lacing the ball to the right of the Kuwait keeper. The game resulted in a 1-1 draw.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – England Under-21s – The young Arsenal star came on as a substitute at half-time against the Israel Under-21s and inspired a great comeback after England were 1-0 behind at the break. The highly rated youngster provided 3 assists from open play and also earned a penalty from which Nathan Delfouneso converted. The performance earned great praise from manager Stuart Pearce who said ‘he has got a bright future’ ahead of him.
Wojciech Szczesny – Poland – Szczesny was an unused substitute on Friday’s friendly against Mexico, however was called upon for Tuesday’s match against European heavyweights Germany. Szcezesny was highly impressive in the 2-2 draw, most notably producing a wonder save from Schuerrle’s long-range shot with 15 minutes to go. The young Polish stopper is going from strength to strength, and at only 21 years old, is set for a long spell as Arsenal’s number one.
While it is great to see good individual performances on the international stage, it will be even more interesting to see how the team operates when they face Swansea. With five new faces in the squad and Mertesacker, Arteta and Santos very likely to start the game it will be a good first-up test for the newly improved team.
