New signing Mikel Arteta says the “Arsenal philosophy” attracted him to join the Gunners on transfer deadline day, and the Spanish midfielder, 29, is eager to make an impact at a club he feels plays the most attractive football in the Premier League.
He told Arsenal Player: “I can’t wait to start playing. I can’t wait to play at the Emirates, I think it’s an unbelievable stadium. I’m so excited. I have always been a big admirer of the Arsenal philosophy, the way they play, the way they do the job, and it’s always exciting watching Arsenal play. In England there is no better team to watch than Arsenal.
“Hopefully I will not take long to adapt but obviously you need to meet new characters, new personalities and new players with different abilities so you need to pick that up as soon as possible to get an understanding on the pitch.
But I have been watching a few videos and have got some work done before training and hopefully that will help me.”
On Arsenal’s late summer spending, Arteta said: “I think we’ve got some experience there from all of them [late signings] and we have strength in all positions of the team, which is important as we’re going to be playing in four competitions. Hopefully they can all add something different to the team and get the team performing better.
“I’ve got the right experience in England [following six years at Everton] and I can help the team and the young lads here, and I think I’ve got the best three or four years of my career ahead.”
Arteta is aiming to have a big impact at Arsenal and is putting in the extra work necessary to achieve this, it is for that reason that Arsenal were better off without the likes of Samir Nasri at the club, as the Gunners need players 100% focused and wanting to play for the Arsenal cause. I just can’t wait to see the new team in action this weekend against Swansea.
