Lucas sustained an injury to his shoulder in the second half of last season which paved the way for fellow Pole Wojciech Szczesny to rise up and place both hands firmly on the number one sport at the Emirates, leaving Fabianski with only two appearances for the gunners in 10 months.
The Arsenal number two said on the situation:
It is hard for me coming back after a seven-month injury and for any keeper the most important thing is to play regularly. Before my injury, it looked like I was Arsenal’s No 1 and that time out has really slowed me down.
I feel I am now 100 per cent. But it is only when you are playing regularly that your confidence and feeling for the game gets better.
I still have full belief in my ability. But now I need to take every single opportunity to show I deserve my chance.
Of course, not playing doesn’t make me happy and this season I have had to be patient and keep fighting for a place in the team.
But Wojciech is playing well and the fact we have the Euros coming up in Poland makes things difficult.
At the moment I am focusing everything on Arsenal. There is still time until the transfer window opens in January, so we will see what happens.
Personally I am open to Fabianski leaving the Emirates this coming summer. In Mannone we have a good up-and-coming keeper who would jump at the chance to be number two at the Emirates. What do you guys think? Is Fabianski worth keeping around?
