According to recent reports, Wenger will continue his attempts to land Lille starlet Eden Hazard this January and is ready to offer the Ligue 1 champions striker Marouane Chamakh and centre back Sebastien Squillaci in a players+cash deal for the highly rated 20 year old playmaker.
It’s common knowledge that Arsene Wenger is a long time admirer of the young Belgian international and it is believed that if Lille may give in to a substantial offer in January, with a few clubs monitoring progress in negotiations for Hazard pushing the asking price higher.
Hazard will be cup tied for the remainder of the Champions League which will naturally warn off other sides to place a bid in January, however Wenger may wish to make the sacrifice in order to secure his signature.
Squillaci has never adapted to England and was deemed surplus to requirements over the summer, however a move away never eventuated. For Chamakh, his first year at Arsenal started vibrantly netting a succession of goals, however he supposedly suffered from ‘burnout’ and ended the season with a goal drought.
Hazard has been in fine form this term, netting four goals and three assists in nine matches, and is valued at around £25m. Will the inclusion of two international level players, both with significant Ligue 1 experience, perhaps with some extra cash be sufficient for Lille boss Rudi Garcia to part ways with his prized asset? It seems highly unlikely, but would almost be an ideal buy for the Gunners if they can purchase another striker too.
