Arsene Wenger was keen to sign the promising 19-year-old attacking midfielder last summer however Borussia Dortmund stood firm over their star man. Apparently they may listen to offers if they are knocked out of the Champions League, consequently missing out on the cash injection that comes with the knockout stage qualification.
Dortmund are in Arsenal’s group and the point they gained in the 1-1 draw with Wenger’s men in Germany is the only reward for their efforts after loosing to both Marseille and Olympiacos.
Wenger would like to sign Götze before the summer with a number of suitors interested in the young German international, Arsenal will have to move quickly. The deal could generate £18m for Dortmund, however with his pricetag expected to be around the £30-40m mark the Gunners board have some serious thinking to do in they want to land a player that can fulfill and perhaps even surpass the genius of Fabregas.
