Arsene Wenger has revealed he is convinced that Robin van Persie will sign a new contract with Arsenal, with the Gunners desperate to keep hold of the star striker that has netted an incredible 25 goals in 26 Premier League appearances in 2011.
Naturally the Arsenal heirachy are keen to avoid another ‘Nasri situation’ with Robin Van Persie having only 18 months left on his current deal. However Wenger has said:
Robin has 18 months to go and I’m confident he’ll sign a new deal. I’m always confident.
Van Persie is the only Arsenal player still at the club who has won a trophy while in North London, and although Wenger remains optimistic, his past optimism hasn’t reassured us much after he was ‘confident’ that both Fabregas and Nasri wanted to remain at Arsenal and that they would both be here for the 2011/12 season… Didn’t quite work out did it? However Van Persie’s situation may be different, especially if the Arsenal board finally dig some decent cash out of their wallets and offer him a highly lucrative offer to rival other top clubs, but I won’t hold my breath.
