Although it has been a torrid time for Arsenal fans with both key players Cesc and Samir leaving the Emirates last summer coupled with a bad start to the season, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger insists that the club is still happy and united.
There has been a lot of negativity surrounding the club since these occurrences, but Wenger took the chance to shun some of negativity after highly-rated defender Thomas Vermaelen signed a new four-year contract.
Wenger said on the situation:
What is important is that in our environment it gives a different message, when you listen to people it looks like an exodus with everybody leaving the club but we are a happy club.
We did not have the start of the season that we wanted but the atmosphere inside the club is very solid, very united and very positive.
We want to turn the results round and the fact that some players extend their contract at the moment is a positive sign for us.
We are unified and that is down to our mental strengths.
While the re-signing of Vermaelen is a good positive step for Arsenal, the retention of key front-man Robin van Persie would surely bring much more calm to Arsenal fans. Hopefully he will be the next to extend his contract sometime soon, although based on what he has said of late we may have to find out until next summer to find out if he will.
