The Spaniard arguably had his best performance in an Arsenal shirt last weekend against West Brom showing his exceptional range of passing and distribution and goal-scoring ability. But as well as goals Arteta was also pleased with the defensive performance of the gunners.
Arteta told Arsenal Player on the match and the team working towards being more defensively solid:
We have been trying to get everything tight and be more solid. I like to get forward, have freedom and I like to score goals. I want to participate more on the attacking side so I did that and I’m pleased.
But now we are on a run, we are keeping it together and getting clean sheets. That’s important.
I am pleased that we won. We have a break now and it leaves you with a really bad sensation if you don’t win before one of those. We have 15 days to work with the players and we need to come back very strong.
We have to win every game because we are catching up and it is not one or two clubs [chasing the title] like the old days. We know we have the talent and the desire in our team to get better.
I have not had a lot of time to settle. As soon as I came here there was a pressure and we needed to get results. It has not been an easy time but we have got those results in the last two months.
Since coming to the Emirates Arteta has looked very effective slotting into midfield. His range of passing and vision certainly suits the Arsenal game and now seeing the gunners find some new found strength in defence is also great to see!
