Arsène Wenger has admitted he feels sorry for the likes of Andrey Arshavin who should receive regular football, however the Frenchman believes it is part of football and he maintains that he will use all of his squad this season.
Arshavin has hardly appeared as of late, with Benayoun preferred as a substitute winger in the latter stages of recent matches, and Gervinho and Walcott proving their worth as regular starters.
Wenger has made it clear that he does in fact intent to rotate the squad with the busy winter schedule approaching
He told Arsenals official website:
I care about every player and I feel sorry for the players who do not get the satisfaction of playing. But at the same time in the press conference people say: ‘Your squad is not big enough, why don’t you buy more players?’
We have as well chosen a job where we accept competition. And I think the players all agree with that and accept competition – but sometimes it’s difficult to agree with my decisions and I accept that.
Andrey Arshavin is one of many international stars whose first-team chances have been limited of late but Wenger rejects the notion that the Russian is now a fringe player.

[on Arshavin becomin a fringe player] He’s not a back-up player but at the moment he doesn’t play. Maybe he will play on Saturday.
I feel sorry for every player who doesn’t play but it is part of our job. Competition is part of our job and you must accept that in some periods of your career somebody can get in front of you.
Wenger also insists that the Gunners are not a one man team, and his other strikers can step up to the plate when the time comes for captain Robin van Persie to be rested.
We are reliant on Robin, of course, because he scores many goal. That’s what you want from your strikers.
We have cover for Robin because we have Chamakh and Park, who I think are quality but at the moment they are not getting the opportunities because Robin is in such fantastic form.
It will be up to them to show they can take the relay when needed because the season is long and we play in many competitions, hopefully for a long time. Everybody will get a chance.
I believe that players like Gervinho, Walcott, Arshavin and Ramsey will score goals as well. But at the moment they are more in the providing zone. I am confident that in the near future, some others will score goals as well.
Arshavin has essentially become a fringe player in recent months mainly due to his dip in form, but with some encouraging performances we may see the little Russian back in business again soon, especially with Gervinho absent in January for the African Nations Cup.
The Gunners need the likes of Arshavin, Walcott and Gervinho to share the goal scoring and creative burden with Van Persie, perhaps Arshavin should be utilized in an attacking midfield role, a position he once dominated in Russia and recently for Arsenal he starred against Bolton?
Aaron Ramsey will need to rest soon, so perhaps Arshavin could be utilized in the Welshmans position as the link between the midfield and the striker. He has all the attributes to perform well there and could be devastating in this position. What do you think? Should Arshavin be played more whether it be on the wing or centrally? Or should he be sold in January and a suitable replacement be brought in? Comment below..
