According to SunSport, Gunners youngster Francis Coquelin is in talks over a new four-year deal at Arsenal, and is likely to go on loan still in January to gain further first team experience in the Premier League.
Speculation surrounding the 20 year-olds future has been looming since some of his statements initiated doubts over his extended stay at the Emirates. The Frenchman was quoted as saying last month:
It is often said that when you are young you have time but I played a whole season at Lorient and now I’m virtually not playing at all. It’s annoying. Given my playing time for sure the idea of a departure this winter is in my head.
However it seems Coquelin has come to his senses after gaining more game time recently for the Arsenal first team, and he is rumoured to be offered a new four year deal that will boost his current wage package signficantly. It’s been reported that he currently only earns £10,000 a week and Wenger will reward him nicely for his commitment to the Gunners.
This is encouraging news as Arsenal needs more stability from youngster players that they are educating for the future. The last thing Wenger needs is for them to become world class and bugger off to Money-bags City before they give Arsenal their full potential (Nasri anyone?).
