According to reports, Arsene Wenger is set to make a January move for Real Madrid’s young striker Álvaro Morata. The Sundar Mirror suggests that Arsenal will target the player initially on loan, while deciding on the player’s £10 million release fee for a possible summer move.
The striker has been dominating Spain’s Third division with Real’s B team and he also played a prominent role in Spain’s under-19 team’s European cup victory last summer with team mate and Gunners defender Ignasi Miquel.
Wenger has been tracking the youngster since he played with Getafe in 2008, and may well make a move for the promising striker with the Gunners striking lineup looking thin, especially with the rumoured departure of Andrey Arshavin looming.
Wenger has time and time again uncovered promising young starlets, could Morata be his next? He has made his first team debut for Real Madrid, but has been restricted to appearing for the B side due to Madrid’s star studded side.
This surely wouldn’t be the signing that Gunner fans are looking for, but could be an interesting one nevertheless. Wenger does however have Miyaichi, Oxalde-Chamberlain and summer signing Joel Campbell (who is currently on loan) waiting in the wings for first team opportunities, all of which are talented youngsters.
What do you think? Would this be a signing that you would be pleased about? Or is Wenger wasting his time bringing through yet another talented young player instead of purchasing a known striker? Comment below..
