Playmaker Aaron Ramsey has revealed that he can’t wait to have Jack Wilshere back in the squad with respective injuries plaguing the youngsters and preventing them playing together.
Wilshere’s serious ankle injury has prevented the duo from partnering this season, and in the Englishman’s absence Ramsey has been developing a flourishing midfield relationship with summer signing Mikel Arteta.
Despite the added competition for places that Wilshere’s return will incur, Ramsey is looking forward to teaming up with the 20-year-old over the coming months.
The Wales captain Ramsey said:
Jack is a great player for us; he had a really good season last year. It’s only a good thing to have competition for places.
It’s been quite weird because [initially] I was playing, so Jack went out on loan, then I got injured, so Jack played. We haven’t really had a chance to play together yet in the league. It will be good to have the competition.
[On his developing partnership with Artera] It has definitely grown as the season has gone on, we’ve got a better understanding of each other and that is starting to show with the assists and the chances created. It is only going to get stronger as the season goes on, too.
Wilshere’s return will certainly give Wenger a selection headache as it will be difficult to leave out Arteta or Ramsey after the two have played together for so long. Ramsey is inconsistent so I think I would prefer Wilshere over the Welshman, however the attacking midfield role is not really Jacks preferred midfield position and he may be best suited as a straight swap for Arteta.
Who do you think Wilshere should take the place of in the Gunners lineup? Song is irreplaceable, so that just leaves Ramsey or Arteta. At least there is no immediate rush and he can slowly gain more game time and fitness.
