Arsène Wenger believes Theo Walcott is on his way up after a dip of form over the Christmas break. The English winger has yet to put pen to paper with his contract expiring in 18 months, but Wenger is confident that Walcott will extend his stay in North London too.
Walcott has racked up the second most Premier League appearances this season for the Gunners, finally overcoming his persistent injury troubles (touch wood) and has had a dip in form after illness prevented him from playing the Wolves match in December. He did however show glimpses of his capability against Swansea last week, but still lacked composure and eventually became an anonymous.
Wenger believes the speedster is on his way to playing his best once again:
I think he is coming back now, He had a dip over Christmas.
I found people were a bit harsh on him at Swansea because in the first half he looked dangerous to me. In the second half he scored the goal and having seen the game again he created some dangerous situations.
That was not the case at Fulham, for example. In training I think he is on the way up again.
The expectation level in England is very high for him because he started at the age of 16. But I still feel he has improved a lot this season. I am confident [that he will sign a new deal] yes, but let’s see.
Walcott has been incredibly inconsistent in the past however this season he has managed to improve his crossing and passing, as well as scoring goals and providing plenty of assists for captain and top scorer Van Persie.

He is a must keep player that will highly likely extend his stay with Arsenal, unlike Nasri he will show loyalty to the man that has developed him into the player he is today, and he has a lot to give the Gunners after being plagued by injuries in the past.
Wenger needs a high quality performance from Theo against United to inspire them to victory, and he does usually seem to perform in the high profile matches. Common you Gunners!!
