Because of Van Persie’s free scoring form, that has seen him top the Premier Leagues scoring charts by a mile, he naturally has been linked with a host of elite clubs.
The Dutchman’s contract is set to expire in 2013, and the striker is not wanting to open talks until the summer which means yet another stressful, rumour filled preseason, however Bartomeu feels this is not the right time to think about a transfer.
Bartomeu told Spanish newspaper Sport:
There is nothing going on at the moment
There are some rumours, but this is not the right time to talk about Van Persie. We have to focus on our performances on the pitch.
Van Persie has been honest with the fans about his position and it is quite clear that he is determined to sign a new deal IF the Gunners are in a healthy position. He has admitted he loves London, the club and Wenger and the ideal situation would be to remain in London where his family is settled.
But if Wenger was to leave/get fired and Arsenal do not end up in the top four this season then there is a high possibility that the flying Dutchman may part ways and leave to Spain. So it is vital that The Gunners push hard for the Champions League spots and also win the FA Cup and/or the Champions League.
