According to the Daily Mail, Gunners reject forward Marouane Chamakh has been offered an escape route from the Arsenal bench in the form of a £6million offer from Fiorentina, meanwhile German striker Lukas Podolski has reportedly agreed personal terms with the Gunners.
Chamakh almost switched Italy for England in January, but the lack of forwards available for the Gunners made the switch impossible at present, however he will inevtiably leave this summer.
The May 2010 free signing from Bordeaux in May 2010 made an impressive start to his Arsenal career in the absence of Robin Van Persie, but when the Dutch master returned Chamakh’s playing time and form went out the window.
The Moroccan has been restricted to the odd cameo and Cup matches this season totaling 15 appearances scoring just once, and will be seeking greener pastures after falling out of favour with Wenger.
His situation is hardly surprising with the fantastic form of Robin Van Persie, but when he was given the opportunity Chamakh hardly provided. He is too slow and not physical enough for the English game, he has the height but even struggles to use that to his advantage.
With Wenger planning a summer cleanout of the likes of Almunia, Squillaci, Arshavin, Bendtner and Vela set to be sold, the tall Moroccan forward will too be on the transfer list with Lukas Podolski seeming the natural replacement.
According to Bild, German international and Koln centre forward Lukas Podolski has agreed personal terms with Arsenal ahead of a summer transfer to the English capital.
The Germany international’s contract with the Koln expires in 2013, and despite his love for his hometown club, he has felt betrayed after a lack of investment was initially promised when he signed from Bayern Munich in 2009.
Since then he has expressed his interest in moving to England, more specifically Arsenal, with Arsene Wenger reportedly bidding for the 26-year-old rejected last summer. But with his contract set to expire in just over a year, Koln have to sell their prized asset as he will not sign an extension this summer, otherwise they risk loosing him for free in 2013.
Podolski is the perfect addition to the Gunners squad, he can play out wide and up front so he will provide ample cover for Van Persie if required, and he is a proven goal scorer (he’s scored 15 goals and four assists in 19 appearances this season). The sales of Bendtner and Vela at least will be enough to cover a relatively low transfer fee for Podolski. And potentially the German influence of Podolski and Mertesacker maybe enough to convince young Dortmund starlet Mario Gotze to head to the Emirates too..
Get in there quick Arsenal and wrap this one up!
