Van Persie, 28, will be entering his final year of his contract next season and the Gunners will be holding serious talks with their prized asset this summer. Meanwhile rumours are hot surrounding his future with Spanish big guns Barcelona and Madrid stepping up their interest.
Van Persie reportedly told Marca:
I am happy to hear of the interest of a club as important as Real Madrid. Of course I would be excited to play there.
I do not think Arsenal will be willing to negotiate.
Former Madrid director Jorge Valdano believes that Barcelona would be more suited destination rather than Real Madrid who currently have the inform Benzema and Higuan, Valdano told El Larguero:
Van Persie is needed more at Barcelona than at Real Madrid in my opinion. Madrid are already pretty close to having perfect squad.
Although these rumours are concerning, Van Persie’s agent has since denied the story, telling Goal.com: “No truth, no quotes, no interview” which is positive to hear. The Dutchman has highlighted his willingness to stay put in London recently with his family happy and settled, but how could he turn down a big money offer to another prestigious club such as Madrid or Barcelona who continually challenge for the top most honours? One thing is for certain is that the Gunners will have to stump up a serious sum and nail him down with a contract he can’t refuse.
It is extremely vital that the Netherlands international stays put next season as he has become such a huge influence on and off the field, and with a couple of extra reinforcements Arsenal can be a side to reckon with. What do you think? Will Van Persie resign? Comment below.
