The gunners go into a tough upcoming match against Newcastle this week, but will be full of confidence after recording three victories on the trot with the most recent being a valiant 3-0 victory over Italian giants AC Milan. With our closest rivals Chelsea, Tottenham and Liverpool all dropping points this gameweek it is imperative the gunner’s secure all three points to improve their chances of securing a very get-able third place finish.
Arsenal have been boosted by the return of both Aaron Ramsey and Mikel Arteta to the squad, although there is a small chance both may not feature after Chamberlain and Rosicky produced great performances against AC Milan last week. At the very least it is safe to say that Rosicky will be starting after producing a number of good performances in recent weeks.
At the back, Arsenal are starting to finally look comfortable in the full-back position. Brazilian Andre Santos is finally available for selection, although after his lengthy lay-off it is likely that young Kieran Gibbs will retain his starting spot at left-back. Expect the rest of the back-line to remain the same after keeping out the likes of Robinho and Ibrahimovich against AC Milan.
Expect Van Persie to lead the attack with Walcott on the right and either the Ox or Gervinho on the left. While we ourselves have a very potent attack we must look out for the threat of Demba Ba who is largely to thank for Newcastle’s impressive run this season scoring 16 goals this campaign.
on Andre Santos…
Santos is available if he is needed on Monday night to be in the squad. He has been out three months. We played for two months without full backs so we are pleased that we have them back.
on Benayoun and Diaby…
Diaby will not be available for Monday but Benayoun, if all goes well, could be available to join in training on Sunday.
on players returning for Newcastle game…
From Tuesday night we did not lose anybody and we certainly have Arteta and Ramsey back in the squad. That’s the news we have at the moment.
on Jack Wilshere…
Jack had a scan today. When I walked out to the training session at 11am we still had no information about it. The progress in training is very good but what you do not want is to have any setbacks. The clinical signs are all very good when you look at his ankle, it is not inflamed and it is normal progress now.
Arsenal – Robin van Persie – The Dutchman has been in fine form in recent weeks, most recently in the Premier League with a brace against Liverpool which included a stunning stoppage time volley that won the clash. Hopefully he can produce much more of the same against Newcastle.
Newcastle – Demba Ba – The Senegalese striker has been in the form of his life this season scoring 16 goals this term. Expect him to give both Vermaelen and Koscielny a tough time at the back.
