According to the Daily Mail and the Sun the 26-year-old will move to the Emirates this summer in a £11million deal that could see the striker earn £80,000 a week in a five year deal. A deciding factor in the move is believed to be because the highly rated Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger speaks fluent German.
The German internationals move was reportedly set to be made official this week, however Cologne are delaying any such announcement with the club struggling for survival in the Bundesliga.
With no quotes coming from Cologne, Podolski or Arsenal it is difficult to say whether the reports are in fact true. But surely no official agreement can be made until the start of the transfer window? But either way the fact that the Gunners have managed to lure Podolski ahead of the likes of Manchester United is encouraging.
The Sun is also suggesting that Wenger now will turn his attentions to Rennes combative midfielder Yann M’Vila. The France international is highly rated by the French manager, and he reportedly made an offer last summer however Rennes did not want to negotiate then. But today M’Vila admitted that it would ‘change everything’ if a French coach personally called him to acquire his services. He told Canal+:
Inter, Arsenal, Real … I will take the fun everywhere! These are great clubs. If the coach calls you and tells you he wants you to make you play, especially a French coach, it changes everything.
Although he is a brilliant talent, Wenger will almost definitely not buy the midfielder with the Gunners stacked with a wide range of options and the fact that Real Madrid are interested in him too, meaning there is no chance of Wenger outbidding the Spanish Superclub. But Arsenal already have Rosicky, Arteta, Ramsey, Diaby, Wilshere, Song, Coquelin and Frimpong, the latter three are all defensive midfielders so can you realistically see Wenger adding another to the mix? Maybe another attacking midfielder if we are lucky, but I wouldn’t hold my breath…
