The Mirror have revealed that Gunners winger Andrey Arshavin feared he would miss out on Euro 2012 because Arsene Wenger had lost faith in the winger, hence his loan move to Zenit st Petersburg in February.
The Russian captain wants to meet with Wenger again at the end of the season to discuss his future at the Emirates, but he seems keen to make his loan move to his former club permanent.
The 30-year-old struggled for inclusion in the Gunners lineup with the likes of new-boys Gervinho and Oxlade-Chamberlain preferred over the little Russian. He arrived from Zenit over three years ago for £15m and according to reports his former employers have the option to re-purchase their star for £6m at the end of this season with only one year left on the attackers contract.
Arshavin said on his current situation:
I left Arsenal in February to try and regain my level to play for Russia and after the last few months with Zenit I believe it was a successful choice.
The offer from Zenit was good in every sense. If I had stayed in London then I am convinced that my chance to make the final squad for Russia would have passed.

I suffered different problems at Arsenal. I lost the confidence of the coach. I wasn’t sure why. But I wasn’t getting the chances to play.
I’m now with Zenit – and again after the Euros.
After the Euros, I will study my future, think about it. And I would like to talk to Wenger before I make any decision.
It is clear to all that Arshavin’s time with Arsenal is over. He has been a valuable asset in the past, but has hardly lived up to the form he once demonstrated when he first arrived from Zenit. He will only be blocking the development of Gervinho, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Miyaichi, so if the Gunners can get anywhere near £6m for the Russian then they should take that in a flash!
In terms of why Arshavin lost the confidence of Wenger, he should perhaps watch some replays of his performances which often this season and part of last season have been quite dismal. Thanks for your service Andrey, but is time for you and Arsenal to part ways this summer, it’s a win-win situation.
