Two interesting rumours have been published by The Daily Mail linking Arsenal with Spanish hotshot striker Fernando Llorente, and Anzhi midfielder Odil Ahmedov is hoping that he can catch the attention of once-admirers the Gunners this summer to fulfil his dream of playing at the Emirates.
The Uzbekistan midfielder Ahmedov has apparently been ‘extensively scouted’ in the past by Arsenal, and Wenger even considered making a move for the 24-year-old last summer, but now he’s taken matters into his own hands an publicly stated his desire to play for the North London side.
Ahmedov enjoyed a stellar debut season with Anzhi and was named their best player of 2011 ahead of experienced and well known duo Samuel Eto’o and Yury Zhirkov.
The versatile defensive midfielder who can play at centre back has been earmarked as a possible alternative to long-term Gunners target Yann M’Vila who is attracting a lot of attention from Europe’s top clubs.
Ahmedov reportedly said on his wish to play in Europe’s top competitions, in particular his dream to play for Arsenal:
I’m really happy to be playing at Anzhi, but I want to try England or Spain All the clubs in Spain and England are wonderful, but I would like, if I had the choice, to play for Arsenal.

The 6ft-tall defensive minded player also has a knack for scoring long distance stunners, but is he a realistic Arsenal target? Personally I’d rather M’Vila as there is a reason Wenger put in a bid last summer for the Frenchman rather than his Uzbek counterpart. In saying this I’ve hardly seen Ahmedov play so I cannot make an informed decision, but I’m sure M’Vila will show us why he should be in Arsenal colours next season in the upcoming Euro 2012 competition for France so keep your eyes peeled with the combative midfielder.
So onto the next rumour, and it’s almost a laughable one really. The Daily mail have reported (without any quotes) that the Gunners are in for Athletic Bilbao striker Fernando Llorente.
The 27-year-old netted an impressive 27 goals in all competitions this season for Bilbao and has managed to break into the Spanish national side for the Euro 2012 tournament after some impressive performances for club and country this year.
Although The Daily Mail insist Llorente is keen on a move to England with only one year left on his contract, the Spaniard told Cadena COPE recently on interest from Manchester City:
Newspapers have to sell, but the truth is that there is nothing with Manchester City
I have always said I’m very well here in Bilbao.
Despite there being just one more year remaining on his current contract, it is believed there is a buy-out clause which means a club will still have to fork out close to £28million.
‘The Lion King’ may well be one of La Liga’s top strikers but there is absolutely no chance of him joining Arsenal this summer. Not only will Arsenal not sanction a club-record £28million transfer, its hard to see Llorente switching Spain for England right now, especially if he’s not keen on joining City to earn triple what he does now.
So unfortunately you can dismiss this rumour, and as for Ahmedov I still prefer M’Vila. What are your thoughts? Feel free to leave a comment below or discuss it in the new allArsenal.com forum here. Remember to sign-up and comment to go into WIN a 2012/13 Arsenal home shirt!
