According to the Daily Mail, the Gunners have agreed a deal ‘in principle’ to sign Rennes combative midfielder Yann M’Vila with reports heating up surrounding the midfielder’s future.
allArsenal.com reported yesterday that Arsenal had in fact opened talks with the Ligue One side over a proposed £17million offer for their star player, and it seems that the France international is edging closer and closer to making the move to the Emirates official.
Also according to the Daily Mail, Wenger is interested in Blackburn’s Junior Hoilett whose contract expires this summer aswell as Swansea’s goalkeeper Michel Vorm. However Wenger has been keen on M’Vila for awhile now and seems the most likely target this summer.
The French manager even had a bid knocked back last summer, and if the midfielder makes his way to North London then it could allow Song to play a more box-to-box midfield role and allow him to continue to flourish in an attacking sense.
Hoilett would an interesting signing too as he will be available for free this summer, however with the wings stacked with plenty of options it seems unlikely that Wenger will actually proceed in signing the Blackburn winger.
I still won’t believe the M’Vila story until its published on Arsenal.com, but in the meantime it seems that negotiations are heading in the right direction which is extremely positive for the Gunners ahead of their summer preparations.
I’m certainly starting to warm to the idea of the combative Frenchman heading to the Emirates as it will add more depth to the midfield and allow Song to play a more involved role in the attacking buildup play which he has done so excellently this season. But recently in the absence of Arteta, Song’s attacking prowess has created a hole between the midfield and defence as Ramsey isn’t as defensive minded as the injured Spaniard.
While Wenger has Coquelin and Frimpong that are developing well, they aren’t M’Vila lets be honest and require more experience. Also the fact that there are no attacking midfielders available for purchase (Gotze would be ideal, but he won’t be moving anywhere this summer), strengthening the rest of the midfield would be ideal as Wilshere could play higher up the pitch when he returns and we still have Rosicky and Ramsey fighting for a place.
What are your thoughts? Bring in M’Vila or save the cash for an attacking midfielder?
