It has been revealed that Carlos Vela will not be returning to Arsenal at the end of the La Liga season when his loan spell expires with Real Sociedad.
According to Hector Gonzalez, the director of Mexico’s national teams, the 23-year-old striker has asked to not be included in selections for the Olympics this summer as he will be searching for a new club over the summer.
This might come as a shock to many Arsenal fans who were expecting the little Mexican to link up with the Gunners this preseason after he has enjoyed a successful loan spell in Spain that has seen him net 12 goals in 30 odd appearances, many coming in recent matches.
Gonzalez said to reporters (as quoted on goal.com):
He told us that he does not want to play for Arsenal and he will go to a different club.
He asked [not to be called up] so he can play the pre-season and meet his new manager at his new club, because it is almost sure he will not continue on at Real Sociedad.
Carlos Vela asked on a personal and professional level that he not be selected for any of the Mexican national teams.
Vela has spent several seasons on loan while at the Emirates after failing to secure regular game time. He demonstrated glimpses of brilliance last season in the earlier stages of the campaign but apparently lacked discipline in training and his personal life leading to his exit on loan.
Personally I’m slightly gutted that he will not be part of the first team setup next season as he is a far better player and has more potential than Park Chu Young and could be a big name striker one day. But unfortunately it seems like he cannot adapt to the physical English game and may well be better suited in the more stylish and technical Spanish league.
