Arsene Wenger has once again stated he is confident over the future of Robin van Persie ahead of next season, although his star player has yet to commit to a new contract.
The Premier League Player of the Year is wanted by a host of top class clubs that will be challenging for Europes top honours next season including the Manchester clubs and Real Madrid.
The 28-year-old has been a revelation since his £2.75million move from Feyenoord in 2004, however it hasn’t been a smooth ride for the Dutch international who struggled with injuries throughout his Arsenal career. But Wenger believes his recent form demonstrated over the past year is down to his talisman’s physical and mental health, and he will continue impressing in an Arsenal shirt next season.
The Frenchman told the Daily Express:
I am confident that you will see Robin van Persie in the Barclays Premier League next season and I am very confident you will see him in red and white.
[On RVP’s development] I am happy and he must be proud.

When you compare the Robin who arrived, from being on the bench at Feyenoord, to the player he has become today it is remarkable.
People ask me many times what is the first quality of a football player and I say health.
You would be surprised at how many players miss training sessions or games because they have problems with their body.
When they wake up, they must feel like, ‘Oh, I now must have a go’, which is not natural.
A few of us have that talent and gift that you wake up in the morning and are ready and happy to go.
Your body must be capable to absorb everyday stress and that was a big problem for Robin for years.
During the early stages of his career Van Persie didn’t believe he had what it took to be an out-and-out striker, similarly to Arsenal striking legend Thierry Henry. But Wenger knew RVP’s potential, just like with Henry, and now has become one of the most feared strikers in the game.

I believed in him because I saw the intentions of his movement in the box and the quality of his finishing.
I had the same problem with Thierry when he was a left winger and I told him, ‘You play through the middle’. He said to me, ‘I cannot score goals’ but he didn’t do too badly and Robin has done extremely well as well.
Sometimes the players do not know exactly what they can do.
Wenger was ‘convinced’ last summer that Fabregas and Na$ri were going to stay and look how that panned out, so although it’s comforting to hear Wenger believe that RVP will be an Arsenal player next season, these comments haven’t helped assure me of anything yet.
But surely he must re-sign? His family is happy and settled, he is the club captain and loves the club. Arsenal have nutured and displayed a tremendous amount of faith in him through all his injury ravaged seasons. He’s only given the Gunners one full campaign, so he should be around next season even if he doesn’t sign a fresh deal.
Don’t listen to all the media hype surrounding this supposed ‘meeting’ where RVP said a flat ‘no’ to Wenger’s offer, he is just remaining cautious and will bide his time to see how the transfer window pans out. If worst comes to worst Van Persie will just play out his contract at the Emirates, I don’t think he will be leaving this summer. At least that will give the Gunners one more season to win some silverware to have one last shot at keeping their talisman.
