Cazorla apparently has a €45m buy-out clause in his contract, but Malaga are expected to sell the Spaniard on the cheap to settle outstanding financial debts or otherwise face relegation.
In the Gunners most recent press conference in Arsenal’s Tour of the Far East Wenger has however cooled speculation on the imminent transfer of Cazorla, while also confirming more players will be coming to the Emirates.
Asked after Arsenal’s narrow win over the Malaysia X1, Wenger is quoted as saying by ESPN Soccernet:
No [we are not close to signing any player]. Maybe we will sign a Malaysian player!
You see I have come here to say as little as possible! I am ready to talk a lot, but not a lot about transfers, because it is a very fragile subject and a very secret subject.
We bought Giroud and Podolski and I hope that we bought Diaby and Wilshere too, who didn’t play at all last season. We will add Wilshere to the squad as soon as possible. But we are not at the end of it [transfers] – we will still bring players in.
The attacking midfielder position is certainly a position Arsenal have had problems with since the departure of Fabregas and I can’t help but feel that Cazorla would bring back some of the creative spark the Gunners have been lacking for a modest transfer fee within Arsenal’s budget.
With Rosicky set to potentially miss out the first month of the Premier League due to achilles surgery and Ramsey young and inexperienced, I can’t help but feel we need a reliable attacking midfielder to orchestrate attack up the field.
While Rosicky fluorished towards the end of last season, it is unrealistic to think at his age (31) and with his injury record he will not suffer some sort of injury setback this season and Ramsey at present has not developed enough to take the reigns one feels. In any case, Arsenal would likely have to offload players before others are brought in.
What do you guys think? Should Cazorla be brought in? Would Rosicky and Ramsey provide enough quality in the attacking midfield position? Should the Ox be given a chance there at the start of the season as it is his preferred position? Feel free to leave a comment below!
