With the official confirmation that Alex Song has left Arsenal, reports are heating up once again that Wenger will make an approach for Yann M’Vila, with his Rennes manager helping to fuel the fire with his latest comments.
Arsene Wenger, just after selling arguably the Gunners second best player to Barcelona, has admitted they will be looking at bringing in at least ‘one midfielder and one defender’, with many Gooners keen to see the French combative midfielder Yann M’Vila make his long awaited journey to the Emirates.
The defensive midfielder has come on in leaps and bounds over the past couple of years, becoming a mainstay in the French national side, and Arsenal have been long linked to the talented midfielder’s signature.
Rennes general manager Pierre Dreoss has admitted that their star man is available for a transfer with the three clubs interested believed to be Russian giants Zenit St Petersburg and north London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham. However, Andres Villas Boas has already admitted that M’Vila is a player that he likes, but they are more concerned by filling the creative void that will be left in the wake of Modric’s inevitable departure.
Dreoss told RMC Radio in France:
For the moment, there are three offers. There is no agreement. We enter negotiations this week and hope to find a solution.
I think that it will be done by the end of this week or the beginning of next.
It’s a complicated project with clubs who are not even internally agreed [Tottenham], and clubs that Yann does not want to go to [Zenit].
There is even a percentage chance that Yann could stay at Rennes this year.
Arsenal? Maybe, you’ll have to call Arsene [Wenger]. But when Song leaves, we must say that Arsenal will reinforce that post. Same thing for a club that sells to Arsenal.
We maintain our price tag of around €20m [£15.7m].
This is great news for the Gunners, especially that the pricetag has not risen. They must act quick and sign the talented midfielder especially if they can just use the funds from the Song transfer. He will be a pure defensive midfielder added to the mix, someone that can compete with Coquelin and eventually Frimpong for a starting spot and will add even more depth and options to the midfield, while helping to shield the defence more efficiently than Song who often ventured forward.
I would prefer M’Vila over the loan move of Sahin from Real Madrid, not just because it’s a permanent deal but the physical presence and defensive capabilities of the Frenchman would out weigh Sahin who likes to operate in a deep-laying playmaker role.
What do you guys think? Would you prefer M’Vila over Sahin? Feel free to comment below or in the Frenchman’s thread in the allArsenal forum (Register & comment to win the new arsenal away shirt!)
