Arsenal have pretty much bagged their third signing of the summer window in Santi Cazorla, and now Gooners can get excited that midfielder Nuri Sahin and young striker M’Baye Niang could possibly follow.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has given Sahin his blessing to leave the club if he wishes to this summer, as the Spanish champions have an abundance of midfield talent to choose from.
The Gunners are rumoured to be pushing for a loan move this summer with an option to buy next year, and Mourinho’s latest comments will fuel the speculation even further.
The Portugese manager said:
The point is that he’s a young boy who wants to play every match. He wants to play to be happy and in Real Madrid, with Xabi Alonso, Sami Khedira, Lassana Diarra, Esteban Granero and Mesut Ozil, the situation is not easy.
Real Madrid is very difficult. It is not an easy club, because we demand a lot. We have great players and when you don’t start well, it’s difficult to do it.
If he stays, he’s not a problem for me. He’s one more solution. We are leaving the situation in his hands. Decide what you want to decide, to be happy. If you decide to leave we’re going to help you to leave. If you decide to stay, we’re going to support you and try to succeed this season.
It is certainly good news for Wenger if he is keen to bring Sahin in on loan, however I struggle to see it happening. The Frenchman time and time again has admitted that they do not need anymore box-to-box or defensive midfielders (M’Vila) with a full array of current options at the Emirates.
Currently Arsenal have Song, Coquelin, Diaby, Arteta, Ramsey and then injured trio Rosicky, Wilshere and Frimpong who will be fighting for a place in the Arsenal engine room with the likes of Cazorla (soon to be announced), Eisfeld and Oxlade-Chamberlain options for the more attacking midfield position.
Don’t get me wrong I would love Sahin to come in on loan, but it seems unlikely the way Wenger has talked recently regarding his midfield options. But a loan move would be perfect with Wilshere set an unreliable return date of October.
Someone who could potentially be a Gunner this month is the hotly rated Caen striker M’Baye Niang, whose club president has admitted they rejected an offer from the Gunners after an initial trial in North London.
The 17-year-old’s future is set to be decided prior to the kick off of the Premier League, but other clubs have also stated their interest meaning his price will rise.
Caen president Jean-Francois Fortin told L’Equipe:
Arsenal made me a propostition. Other clubs are interested: two in England and one in Italy. I think there will be an issue here for a fortnight.
Niang has become one of the most sought after talents in France after a successful debut season and with it the accomplishment of breaking into the France U21 side despite his tender age of 17.
He would be a huge coup for the Gunners, however he will not be cheap similarly to Oxlade-Chamberlain. He should probably be loaned back to France to gain more experience once secured by Arsenal, however not Caen as they’ve been relegated!
