Amid intense speculation that Spanish giants Barcelona are trying to lure in Arsenal defensive midfielder Alex Song this summer, it was almost worth placing a tenner on partycasino.com than on Song staying! But now the Cameroonian has admitted he is aware of the speculation but he is happy at the Emirates.
Gooners world wide were starting to worry that for a consecutive summer Barca would raid Wenger’s midfield and rip out his most prized possession. In the wake of Fabregas and Nasri’s departures as well as Wilshere’s injury, Song provided not just his usual defensive duties but often ventured forward providing some inspirational creative play, topping Arsenal’s charts with an astounding 14 assists.
After a series of persistent calls from a variety of Barcelona stars to join the Catalan side, Song has squashed any rumours linking himself to the La Liga runner-ups, stating his happiness at Arsenal and Skysports believe he may be on the verge of signing a contract extension with his current deal set to expire in two years.
The defensive midfielder told Skysports:
I am not going to lie if I said there is no interest but I am at Arsenal and I am happy at Arsenal
Barcelona are the best team in the world, and speculation will always continue until the window closes.
Arsenal should certainly look to reward the Cameroon international with an improved contract soon, as he has emerged as the best defensive midfielder in England, and is instrumental in the Gunners midfield. He has developed a brilliant understanding with Mikel Arteta who is a versatile midfielder with a defensive edge too, meaning they were able to rotate when Song pressed higher up the pitch.

His current deal expires in 2014, and the last thing Wenger will want to contend with is another Van Persie/Walcott situation next summer, not that Walcott will leave but there is always that bit of uncertainty. I’m very satisfied to finally hear from the combative midfielder, especially if the Spuds get M’Vila, as we will still have our entire midfield from last season present with the wonderful addition of Cazorla.
What are your thoughts? Are you relieved to hear from the Cameroonian star finally? Suck on that Barca, you aren’t getting your way this summer! Feel free to comment below or in allArsenal’s forum under Song’s thread – register & comment to go into the draw to win Arsenal’s new away kit!
