Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has put forward his opinion on both Robin van Persie and Jack Wilshere in an interview which can be seen in full at Sky Sport News.
On the topic of Van Persie, while the Frenchman stated he wants Robin to stay with the Gunners, he insists life will go on if he departs from the Emirates stadium.
He said to Sky Sports News on Van Persie:
I don’t know exactly what is happening but as an Arsenal fan I want him to stay.
He is still an Arsenal player and the boss has to deal with it.
I’ve got nothing to say about that [Van Persie’s public statement], you will not get me to be one of the guys talking about the club and the player.
I just want Arsenal to do well. Robin will do what he will do and we’ll see.
When I left, everybody cried, but then the year after they went on a run of being eight points ahead. Everyone comes and goes.
Although many of the recent headlines have been on the Arsenal captain, Henry also pointed out that Wilshere is integral to Arsenal’s plans and hopefully he returns from injury as soon as possible.
The young Englishman missed all of last season due to an persistent stress fracture injury and also underwent minor knee surgery in May, ruling him out until at least October.
Henry said to Sky Sports on Wilshere:
You want Jack Wilshere around.
He reminds me of when I first arrived when the old guard was there. He’s an Arsenal fan in the first place and you need this type of player around in the dressing room.
It’s not only that he’s an Arsenal fan, and not only an Englishman, but he’s a good player, it’s as simple as that.
What a shame that he stopped a bit because he was on his way. I just wish him all the best that he can come back quick and wear the shirt he loves so much.
I saw what the boss said the other day and I will say what he said – hopefully they will sign this year Wilshere and Diaby.
I thought it was a clever thing for him to say as usual.
You need those guys around. Mikel Arteta did extremely well, but you need those guys also in the squad.
I personally agree with what Henry has said. Of course everyone wants Van Persie to stay, but first and foremost the situation must be resolved as quick as possible so Arsenal can simply just get on with the job.
In terms of Wilshere, it is clear that he is a fantastic player and is an integral part of the Arsenal squad. Hopefully the young Englishman is given enough time to fully recover so his return will be a successful one with little chance of injury recurrence.
