The Return of Jack Wilshere by LM
It has been a great couple of weeks for Arsenal and it is nice to feel the air of optimism that is currently surrounding the club. Of course with RVP leaving for United this summer, every football blog feared that this season could well and truly be the demise of Arsenal’s reign as a premier league title contender. But after beating Liverpool at Anfield, drawing at the Etihad against Manchester City and of course thrashing Coventry 6-1 last night, confidence is high and things really are starting to look positive at the Emirates.
The biggest football news for me was learning that Jack Wilshere has returned to training. It has been a nightmare 14 months for the young midfielder. When you love football as much as he clearly does and when you miss so many opportunities to play on the world stage for both club and country, there is no doubt that he would have found the last year to be the most difficult time of his life. The 14 months would have felt like an eternity, so the fact that he is back is great news for him and the club.
Training is one thing and of course he will have to be patient to build up his fitness and match sharpness, but I’m sure that fans and everyone at the club will be eagerly anticipating his return to the starting eleven. It will be a huge boost for the team who are already showing that they are gelling together. With Arteta, Carzola, Ramsey and Diaby all looking sharp in possession, we have a good mixture of creativity, experience and energy in midfield that will be the spine of the team.
Some of the football we played on Sunday at City was fantastic. With Carzola and Arteta orchestrating possession, the thought of Wilshere linking up with the two Spaniards with his vision, energy, and creativity is a mouth-watering prospect that I cannot wait to see. With those three in free flow, we will be playing the kind of football that we have been missing for a couple of seasons now. So Barcelona… watch out!

In all seriousness though, Wilshere will be chomping at the bit to get back to action as he will feel like he has to make up for lost time. This will only be a good thing for the team as I’m sure he will add to the intensity, quality and togetherness of the team in training and games. I hate to speak out too soon, but things really are looking brighter for Arsenal as we are making the latest football news for all the right reasons, so let’s embrace this feeling and pray to God that it lasts!
