Long term absentees Jack Wilshere and Emmanuel Frimpong have made their long awaited returns to full training with the Arsenal first-team squad, with Wilshere joining in for the first time in 14 months.
The 20-year-old was sidelined for the entire campaign last season after suffering an ankle stress fracture that was an ongoing issue, followed by a knee problem. But he linked up with the Gunners first team for the first time in over a year on Thursday.
Emmanuel Frimpong has also resumed full training, finally recovering from his second cruciate ligament injury that he sustained while on loan at Wolves in February.
Frimpong and fellow Gunner team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain shared their appreciation of the English midfielder by taking to twitter:
Good to have Jack back in training with us today looking as sharp as ever!
while Frimpong stated:
Was soo gd to be back with the lads training today I’m soo happy now just need FIFA clearance so I can play for Ghana it’s been over a year
@Frimpong26AFC Frimmers! How did Jack look in training? Showing much of his former self? #UTA”>> looked like never been away
Arsene Wenger also shared his appreciation for the return of Wilshere, he told Arsenal’s official website:
We are so pleased that Jack is back in full training. It’s been 14 months and that’s a long time for someone at his age. It’s an eternity, but it’s great news.
We have to give him a few training sessions to see how he copes and responds to it. That’s the delicate, sensitive stage – to choose when to bring him in and out. We’ll have to handle that day-by-day.
We also have Emmanuel Frimpong who has returned to full training this week, which is great news as well. Emmanuel has also been out a long time, but is progressing well.
This is massive news for the Gunners to have the two talented youngster back in the first team fold once again. Wilshere will be instrumental for Arsenal’s hopes of silverware this season and will add even further depth to an already strong midfield. He will take some time to be ready for playing first team football but he has been earmarked to play for the U21 side once Wenger gives him the nod.
It is important not to rush him back to action especially with the current midfield trio of Diaby, Cazorla and Arteta working well together and Coquelin and Ramsey itching for gametime themselves. I’d like to see Frimpong leave on loan once he is fully match fit from playing with the U21 side as we have an abundance of midfield options at present, and he could gain some valuable Premier League experience on a temporary basis this season.
What are your thoughts on Wilshere and Frimpong’s return to training? Do you think Frimmy should head out on loan or stick with the Gunners to add some steel to the midfield? Wilshere will most likely be rotated with Diaby once he is ready, with the two Spaniard’s an absolute mainstays in the Arsenal lineup.
