The Gunners have been given a big boost ahead of this weekends Premier League clash away to Manchester United with number one goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny returning to training.
Vito Mannone, the clubs third keeper, has stepped up in the absence of the Poland international and his compatriot Lukasz Fabianksi who is out for a further three months. But it hasn’t been smooth sailing for the Italian after a high-profile mistake against Norwich and a few other incidents that have made the Gunners faithful lose some confidence in him.
Szczesny hasn’t featured since the Southampton battering after sustaining an ankle injury and subsequently he had to wear a protective boot. But he has been pictured training once again with the Arsenal first team.
The Gunners face Reading this week in the Capital One Cup before travelling to Old Trafford for the blockbuster weekend tie. The midweek match may come too soon for the giant Pole, however Damian Martinez will most likely get the nod anyway from Wenger as he will look to field a team with a mix of experience and young talent.
So Saturday’s fixture against Manchester united seems the most likely scenario for Szcz’s return and it couldn’t be more timely. With Arsenal quite far off the pace from the summit already 3 points is a must, the return of the Poland international will help to boost the Gunners chances at beating Van Persie’s new side.
