The Pole made his mark at Arsenal at the tender age of 20 and has remained the number one at Arsenal since Wenger announced him as first choice in the latter part of 2010/11 season.
Having only played a couple of seasons in the Premier League Szczesny has already produced some wonderful moments, his penalty save against Dirk Kuyt certainly springs to mind.
Szczesny is quoted as saying by Arsenal.com:
Ever since I signed for this club, I’ve become an Arsenal fan.
It feels like it’s more than me just playing and doing my best on a Saturday afternoon. I feel like I have a much bigger part to play at this club. It means that little bit more to me.
I think there’s a lot of players in this team that are genuine Gooners. You’ve got people like Carl Jenkinson, there’s Jack Wilshere, Emmanuel Frimpong – a lot of young players who really feel it’s the biggest honour they could have, to play for this club.
I think that’s very important for the future.
I think I improve with every single game. I get the experience that is needed for a young keeper, so it’s important for me to play as many games as possible.
I don’t think about playing for any other club. I see my future at Arsenal Football Club. I committed to coming here at the age of 16, not to then leave at the age of 24. That’s not how it works for me.
I think coming over to England at the age of 16 was the most important decision of my life and probably the best one, to date.
While the Pole has a firm grip on the number one spot, there have been rumours that Arsenal are looking for a goalkeeper to provide competition for the youngster. Personally, I feel he does need some healthy competition and hasn’t really received that from Mannone and Fabianski, although the former did put in a good stint at the start of the season.
In any case, it is great to see that young up-and-coming players are starting to show some loyalty towards the club. Fabregas aside, that hasn’t been the case in recent seasons. Walcott is the next to sign according to reports, although for how much remains a question.
What do you guys think of Szczesny? Does he need some healthy competition or is healthy competition already provided by the existing players? Feel free to leave a comment below of discuss Szczesny in the allArsenal.com forums!
