Arsenal have been boosted with their chances for a summer capture of Fiorentina star Stevan Jovetic, with the striker admitting he is pleased by the link with the Gunners.
Jovetic has also been making a name for himself in Serie A and with Wenger’s side needing a new striker to help patch the hole left by Robin Van Persie last summer, the Montengero forward is high on the watchlist.
The 23-year-old is set to face England tonight in the next World Cup Qualifier and Gooners will get a chance to see him in action first hand. Speaking ahead of the tie, he has spoken out on his desire to join the North London club and has praised the side that has come under plenty of criticism of late.
Jovetic is quoted as saying in the Sun:
I’ve heard about Arsenal’s interest, it’s a big pleasure for me to be on the radar of such a big club. I am happy about that.
I’ve always had an affinity with Arsenal. It’s a major club with a big tradition, one of the biggest in Europe. It’s not easy to replace Van Persie, who scored a lot of goals.
Arsenal have plenty of players who don’t score like Van Persie, but are also very good. They are still very strong. I often watch Premier League games on TV. It’s one of the best leagues in the world and looks tempting for me.
Maybe one day I will play there but I have a contract with Fiorentina and battling for a Champions League place in Serie A is the only thing I’m thinking about now.
For now he will be focusing on Serie A, but come the summer time hopefully he will a Gunner. At 23-years-old he is an exciting prospect and he has already proven he can perform at the top level. Manchester City are reportedly in for his services too, so Wenger will have to move quick to try and lock him in, however they way he has spoken of Arsenal speaks volumes about the club and their potential to still bring in top class players.
Finally some good news for the Gunners.
