The Belgian’s ‘golden generation’ are packed with exceptional young talents, two of whom currently ply their trades with two of the Premier League’s less glamours clubs.
We all know about the likes of Vermaelen, Kompany and Vertonghen in the backline, Hazard, Moussa Dembele and Fellaini in midfield but it’s upfront that is of interest to the Gunners.
Romelu Lukaku, Belgium’s answer to Didier Drogba, has been making waves this season on loan with West Brom becoming the highest scoring teenager in the Barclays Premier League since Michael Owen in 1999 after bagging his 13th strike of the season earlier this month. While the Gunners have no chance of signing the highly rated 19-year-old as he’s property of rivals Chelsea, he has called for compatriot Christian Benteke to quit Aston Villa at the end of the season.
I hope Christian will make a move to a big club so he can improve his game as well.
The central striker has scored an impressive 22 goals this season in 37 appearances (plus two substitutions) for club and country (including 3 goals while still with Genk), and that is in his first season with struggling Aston Villa who are currently one place above the relegation zone.
The powerful forward, whose market value is £10.5m, scored the winning goal in the Villains vital 3-2 victory over relegation rivals Queens Park Rangers last Saturday, has been tipped for a move away this summer after such a fruitful first season. At 22-years-old the Belgian international seems very good value for money and has the ability to develop into a top, Drogba-esk striker. Someone who can score something out of nothing, powerful in the air, score from distance and play as a lone striker – exactly what the Gunners need.

If they can prize him away from Villa for anywhere around the £15.0m mark then that will represent good business for both clubs especially if Aston Villa go down this season. His young age but experience from playing in the Premier League are vital components of his allure, it is about time Arsenal robbed a top striker from England’s elite League and not from abroad.
What are your thoughts? Do you rate Benteke high enough to become a classy striker for the Gunners? Feel free to comment below..
