It was a long shot, but Arsenal’s appeal to have Olivier Giroud’s red card suspension overturned has failed after a further FA investigation.
The centre forward received a straight red late in the 1-0 win over Fulham from losing his footing prior to tackling Stanislav Manolev, consequently he went through and then over the ball catching the player.
Referee Andre Marriner was quick to dismiss the Frenchman resulting in a massive three match ban – only four games remain in the season run-in.
The Gunners appealed for a wrongful dismissal, but the claim was rejected. An FA statement read:
Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing today, Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud has had his claim for wrongful dismissal rejected.
Arsene Wenger will most likely now call up Theo Walcott or Lukas Podolski to operate as the centre forward against newly crowned Champions Manchester United this weekend.
