Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain is set to depart from the Spanish side this summer according to the club’s general manager, which has pricked the ears of many Arsenal fans.
The French-born striker has scored 14 goals this season but mainly has been second fiddle to Benzema. The La Liga club are readying a clear out, including the Argentinian, as they look to rejuvenate their squad.
The Argentina international has scored 19 goals in 32 appearances for his country and is still a highly rated forward despite falling out of favour in Madrid, and at only 25 he has his best years ahead.
Madrid’s formation similarly to Arsenal utilizes a single central striker, and with the Spanish outfit wanting to add another high quality striker to the mix, it seems Higuian’s time way well be up at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu.
The club’s general manager Jose Angel Sanchez told L’Equipe.
In a great club like Real, we believe we need two number nines of a high level.
We have Benzema and Higuain. Higuain will leave, Benzema will stay and two others will come.
Why on earth Real want to get rid of the striker of his calibre remains to be seen but the club want to be the best so they must have the best.
Is there any substance in the Higuian to Arsenal rumours? If the comments are in fact correctly translated then the Gunners might have a crack at signing the star forward however there will be plenty of competition from the likes of Spurs and Chelsea who all need a cracking centre forward.
