Reports in France are suggesting Ligue 1 side Lyon have made an approach for Arsenal’s out of favour winger Gervinho according to the Metro.
The report is claiming the French side will look to take Gervinho on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent deal in the future.
The Ivorian has struggled to make an impression at Emirates and has slowly slipped down the pecking order leading to rumours that he will be offloaded this summer.
Both Galatasaray and Fenerbache have shown an interest as have former employees Lille but it seems Lyon are in pole position especially with manager Remi Garde’s healthy relationship with Arsene Wenger.

The Gunners are more likely to want to sell him rather than a temporary deal, however if nothing concrete eventuates then it could be a decent alternative. Arsenal have had to pay the price of poor transfers and failing to sell under performing players recently, with a host of former first team players farmed out on loan. The likes of Djourou, Bendtner, Denilson and Chamakh to name a few have spent time away on loan to lessen the wage bill however many of them need to be sold this summer.

Gervinho unfortunately fits under this category. While he certainly tries hard and has the potential to be a decent player, his finishing is poor as well as his touch. His decision making is also questionable but is a decent dribbler and has plenty of speed. The Ivorian, who is contracted until 2015, has frustrated fans too often and it seems to have finally affected his involvement with the first team. The likes of Oxlade-Chamberlain and potentially Miyachi next season are far more exciting options on the wing as is youngster Serge Gnabry.
Gervinho’s departure could also open up a move for another winger in the market this summer, so personally I’d judge it a bit of good business if Arsene Wenger offloads the Ivorian this summer.
