Lukas Podolski netted a quick-fire brace to earn Germany a 4-2 win over Ecuador in today’s international friendly.
The Arsenal forward scored his first in just 9 seconds and his side were 4-0 up inside 25 minutes thanks to a Lars Bender brace either side of Podolski’s second.
Straight from kick-off Ecuador played the ball back to defender Gabriel Achilier, only to be pressured by Podolski immediately who managed to dispossess the Ecuadorian and run in on goal tidily slotting home at just over nine seconds. The finish was marginally slower than record holder Davide Gualtieri whose goal after 8.3 seconds for San Marino against England in 1993 is the fastest goal in international football.
Podolski smashed home his sides third in the 17th minute from Kruse’s pull back after a smart move inside the box.
