Arsenal are willing to pay £17m for former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba after learning that Juventus may be willing to listen to offers for the powerful midfielder.
The Frenchman is apparently unsettled in Turin despite an excellent season which has seen him break into the first team for both club and country, and a bid of around £17million might be enough to bring him back to the Premier League.
English duo Arsenal and Manchester City are keen to bid for the Juventus midfielder, formerly of Manchester United, the Daily Express have claimed.
The website stated :
Reports on the continent suggest a €20 million (£17m) fee could be enough to make Juventus consider selling their number six, which would be all profit after they brought him in as a Bosman.
It is thought that the Gunners and City will submit a formal bid for Pogba in the coming weeks, after enquiring about the player’s availability.
Pogba made 27 appearances (9 as a substitute) scoring a total of 5 goals in the process after making a bold decision to run down his contract at Manchester United in order to join the Italian giants.
The 20 year old even scored five league goals and helped the club retain the Serie A title as they finished well clear of Napoli. Pogba has shown that he has the ability this season and he is expected to be a major player for France in the coming years after making his debut in the 3-1 win over Georgia in a World Cup qualifier.
It would be a surprise if Juventus decide to allow the midfielder to leave as he has already shown his potential, and will only improve over the coming years. However, should they decide to sell then they would be making a huge profit as he arrived on a bosman free last summer. It would also be a major coup for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger if he managed to convince the Frenchman to move to the Emirates after he snubbed Manchester United just over 12 months ago.
A strong presence in the central midfield position seems to be somewhat of a high priority for Arsenal this summer. Arsenal certainly missed the presence of Alex Song in midfield last season and there have been suggestions that they need a player in the mould of Patrick Viera or Gilberto Silva, who both commanded the game from the middle of the park.
He stands at 6’1 foot in height, so could potentially replace Diaby’s height in the midfield, a presence of which we have seen at times is needed when we come up against some of the more ‘in your face’ and physical teams in the League.
What do you think gooners?
