Lyon’s Clement Grenier has emerged as a real transfer target for the summer fueled by Wenger’s admiration for the midfielder and the player himself expressing interest at moving on to bigger things.
The 22-year-old playmaker has now reiterated that his future is far from decided and it will be sorted soon after the international break.
The newly capped French international made headlines with two stunning free kicks as the Ligue One side chased Champions League qualification. He will not be short of offers this summer and the Lyon academy graduate believes he will focus on training with the national team first then decide his future.
Grenier reportedly said:
I’m training here in Uruguay and Brazil. It feels good to be far from France right now because I’ve heard a lot of things about me lately.
I can’t give answers to everybody. I want to enjoy these 10 days of training. We will see about my future after the internationals, during my vacation.
While the signs seem positive in Arsenal’s favour, Grenier’s father seems to be under a different impression.
Michel Grenier declared that he believes his son will remain at Lyon next season despite interest from top clubs such as the Gunners. According to ESPN, he told TF1:
I think Clement will be at Lyon next season.
Lyon also do not want to sell the star midfielder who has come on in leaps and bounds this season, however if Arsenal launch a large enough bid they should be easily encouraged to depart with Grenier due to their precarious financial position.
Personally I’d like to see the 22-year-old in an Arsenal shirt next season, although I haven’t seen too much of him, if Wenger is convinced of his ability then that is enough for me. We need another attacking midfielder with Cazorla used out wide and Rosicky aging, but then again the likes of Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain can be prepped for the position also.
