Manchester United are well and truly in for Arsenal’s ex-captain Cesc Fabregas this summer, with former Red Devils defender Denis Irwin claiming his club ‘are going to move heaven and earth’ to sign the Barcelona midfielder this summer.
The Gunners apparently have first option to sign the attacking midfielder who became a iconic figure in North London, however Irwin (an ambassador for the Premier League champions) believes his club will push hard for the 26-year-old’s signature when the transfer window opens in England next month.
Many Arsenal fans have been calling for the re-signing of their former talisman who has struggled to integrate himself into the Barcelona setup after two seasons back with his boyhood club. The Spain international has recently declared however that he will remain with the Catalan giants, but Irwin is convinced they can convince the La Liga winners depart with Fabregas.
Espn fc reported Irwin claiming:
Cesc Fabregas has zoomed up Manchester United’s transfer target list to the top position and the champions are going to move heaven and earth to get him
The Barcelona star wants out of the Nou Camp and United want him badly, so the deal should be done easily enough. Fabregas is just the sort of all-action midfield player United need if they are to make a run at next season’s Champions League.
Cesc won’t be short of offers for I believe this is going to be a transfer season where eye-boggling amounts of money will be spent.
At first it was difficult to believe Irwin actually has such in-depth knowledge over Moyes’ transfer targets, but apparently he was among the first to reveal United’s move for Van Persie last summer.
Whether you believe the former United defender or not, he is dreaming anyway. If Cesc leaves Barca for England it will be back to the Gunners! Interestingly Irwin has also claimed Nani is set to join Monaco, so let us hope he’s right about that one and the Portuguese winger isn’t approached by the Gunners.
Personally I hope Fabregas does contemplate leaving Barcelona this summer, he would be a massive signing for the Gunners and could help take us up a notch. But I just don’t see it happening this year unfortunately…
