Alex Oxlade-Chamberlin featured sparingly for the Gunners last season, but the youngster says he has learnt a lot from his time spent on the bench and is eagerly awaiting the new season.
He admits to having had “a few setbacks” last season, but is targeting a return to form in the 2013-14 campaign. The 19-year-old only made 11 starts in the Premier League last season, scoring just one goal, and was largely reduced to the role of impact substitute.
Speaking to Mirror,he said :
It has been an up and down season for me but I have learnt a lot.
No-one knew what to expect from me in my first season at Arsenal and everything I did was a bonus. This season people expect you to continue in the same way, and so did I.
I have made a few steps forward in certain areas of my game, and had a few setbacks that have helped me to learn.

But I am happy with how my season has gone, and the way we finished with Arsenal. I’m really looking forward to next season.
I’m still young, and every day I am involved with either Arsenal or England will help me.
I have to make sure I keep working hard and hopefully things will go well for me.
The way we finished the season and the confidence we take from that will stand us in good stead, the youngster added.
The 19-year-old enjoyed a fabulous first campaign in north London after moving from Southampton in 2011 and forced his way into the England senior side, playing in last summer’s European Championships.
But after representing England at last summer’s European Championship he has featured only sporadically under Arsene Wenger, starting just 11 Premier League games last season. His campaign finished well as he scored a stunning goal in England’s impressive draw with Brazil in the Maracana.
Chamberlain struggled this season after having a great first season.I think a simple solution to Oxlade-Chamberlain’s struggles is to give him more game time. Only by playing regularly can he be expected to gain the experience which will allow him to improve.
Oxlade-Chamberlain is a player who is more than capable of flair moments. He has the skill to dazzle his opponents with mesmerizing runs or telepathic-like passes. However, what makes him stand out as such an amazing talent is his maturity. In short, his decision-making resembles that of a seasoned pro.
