Santi Cazorla believes the Gunners can end their eight year trophy drought this season after an incredible end to their recent campaign.
The odds were stacked heavily against Arsene Wenger’s team to reach the top four, with the north London side placed as low as tenth in December.
However an impressive streak saw them take 26 points from a possible 30 to pip rivals Spurs to the forth and final Champions League qualifying spot on the final day of the season.
Cazorla feels the positivity among the squad will bode well for the start of the next campaign and help inspire confidence in them to bring silverware home for the fans.
He told the official Arsenal Magazine:
Every team in the league has a complicated period at some point and their level drops. When the team doesn’t win and doesn’t get the results we want, the collective confidence drops a little. That is natural.
Now, we’ve put in a spectacular run-in and you can see the difference in mentality. We have great players. I’m sure next season we’ll be a better team – it’s clear this squad has plenty of potential to improve.
[We want] to fight for trophies. Next season, we hope we can be even better, win trophies and the supporters can enjoy it.. I hope I can keep developing, too.
The attacking midfielder who operated on the left wing during the closing stages of the season has been an indispensable part of the squad and will be an integral member once again this season.
The squad does indeed have plenty of quality with the likes of Ramsey, Koscielny and Rosicky coming into their own during Arsenal’s run-in. However with at least two big signings they can really push towards the next level and with that end the trophy drought.
In saying that the confidence must be kept high in the Arsenal camp to prevent another slump, this can be prevented by a solid start to the season. Common you Gunners!
